Sadly no

My students have a paper due Monday, so every time I open my e-mail, there are new questions and requests. So far, the most common request is, "Could you read my draft and tell me if it's okay."

These are freshmen, so I won't judge them for presuming that I will spend my weekend helping them to revise their papers at the last minute. They will learn soon enough that this never happens in college.

  • Ugh, the please read my draft question always drove me crazy.

Freshman-- it's understandable, Seniors-- make my blood boil. I also love when they come to office hours and I ask what their question is and they just hand me their paper! Like I'm going to sit there and read it while they wait. Um..nope!

  • Oh yeah, that happens to me too. I decided that I'm going to give them a little speech about the university's writing center when I return the papers.
