Does this mean I'm a cool TA
One of my students added me as a friend on Facebook. I know that I should say no while I am responsible for grading his work... but I think I will write back and say that I will add him when the quarter is over. That's okay right? I'm friends with former teachers on Facebook. And after this quarter, I won't be teaching for over a year, so I doubt I will be his TA again.
I don't have anything really "personal" on my Facebook -- mostly, I use it to chat with my friends about the news. I certainly don't post emo shit about my personal life. So, I wouldn't care if my students saw my posts. It just seems like I should at least wait until the quarter is over before I can see theirs... right? Are you friends with your students on Facebook?

I'm friends with some of the former RAs from our lab - but I as legitimately friends with them after a few weeks of working together. Students I wouldn't add.

I would say the same as Psycgirl, I never added student/students because I didn't want to see what they were going to write more so than worried about what they'd see on my wall.

I responded and said that I don't add current students. But I may confirm at the end of the quarter when I'm done teaching. I have a lot of facebook friends that I barely know, and I just leave them off my news feed. My facebook is pretty clean -- I try to make it so that even if my advisors saw my profile, there would be no problem.

When I was a grad student, I'd be facebook friends with the unergrads who worked in my lab, but not with undergrads I had in a class as a TA.

And also, I am facebook friends with my advisor and one other professor who was on my dissertation committee! I used to block them from most things I did on facebook when I was still in grad school.
Now that I work, I am facebook friends with some of my coworkers, but never would friend my boss.
